Loy Krathong in Ayutthaya
In Bangsai District, Ayutthaya, you can see the grandeur of Loy Krathong Tam Pratip and the long boat race at Bangsai Arts and Crafts Centre of H.M. queen Sirikit of Thailand.Besides the well-known Loy Krathong Festival, there is another tradition that is based on a similar belief but is celebrated during the night of the full moon of the eleventh lunar month. It is known as the Illuminated Boat Procession. The celebration takes place in the Northeastern provinces of Thailand that is located along the Mekong River. Illuminated boats of approximately 10 – 12 metres long are made from banana stalks or bamboo by villagers. The boats contain sweets, called Khao Tom Mat (stuffed fried sticky rice) and objects to be donated inside, while the outside of the boat is decorated with flowers, incense sticks, candles, lamps and tinder. The boats are crafted into various shapes of important places or mythical creatures, which create a bright and breathtaking sight when the boats are illuminated by the thousands of lamps that are floating on the river.
